Internship Computer Science creating a monitoring system
- On-site
- Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

Job description
Are you a (HBO) Bachelor student in Computer Science and looking for a final internship?
Join our team at GenomeScan!
Who are we?
GenomeScan is a service provider for innovative DNA and RNA analyses. We are dedicated to providing fast, affordable, and high-quality patient diagnostics and genetic laboratory research. Our diagnostic services play a crucial role in identifying the causes of diseases and providing support for individual treatment plans. We also undertake projects for research groups and pharmaceutical/biotech clients.
The GenomeScan ICT team contributes to next generation sequencing (NGS) projects by providing both the hardware and software solutions to process big genetic data sets used by academic research, health care (diagnostic labs), and biopharma. In close collaboration with the bioinformatics team, which analyses and interprets the next generation sequencing data, both teams are a crucial part of an operational chain starting from sample intake to delivery of the final test results to the clinician or researcher.
To make sure we can deliver fast results, GenomeScan has a lot of servers and services that are needed to run analyses. Since all these systems are critical to a fast and smooth operation, they need to be operational when needed. Currently when there are problems with servers or services, these are noticed when the process encounters an error, and this can often create delays in the rest of the processes.
Working at GenomeScan means working in an informal environment and a professional team consisting of both young and experienced individuals, with diverse backgrounds. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our services, such as developing new methods and validating new products. We bring the best out of one another and enjoy celebrating achieved results together!
We are looking for an enthusiastic ICT intern!
What do we offer?
- An exciting internship where you can learn about different server connections, hardware, different operating systems, and real-world applications of software. In this project you will develop a monitoring system that keeps an eye on the health of servers and services so that any issue will be spotted as soon as it occurs and can be dealt with before it becomes a problem.
- This system can use already existing commonly used applications like Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, Observium, Slurm or maybe something completely written from scratch. You are free to pick your preferred approach.
- You will receive intensive guidance in your training and personal development by a professional and friendly team of colleagues.
- The work experience will serve as a jump start for your continued career.
- You will receive a monthly internship allowance.
- A workplace within walking distance of the centre and central station of Leiden.
